Death and Causes of Death Statistics, 2023 Number of deaths was 525 thousand 814 in 2023 While the number of deaths was 505 thousand 269 in 2022, it became 525 thousand 814 with an increase of 4.1% in 2023. 53.9% of deceased persons were males and 46.1% of them were females in 2023. Crude death rate was 6.2 per thousand While crude death rate which is the number of deaths per thousand persons were 5.9 per thousand in 2022, it was 6.2 per thousand in 2023. Number of deaths and crude death rate, 2009-2023 The highest crude death rate was in Adıyaman with 18.0 per thousand The provinces having the highest crude death rate was Adıyaman with 18.0 per thousand in 2023. This province was followed by Hatay with 17.1 per thousand, Kahramanmaraş with 14.8 per thousand, Kastamonu with 10.6 per thousand. The province having the lowest crude death rate was Şırnak with 2.3 per thousand. Şırnak was followed by Hakkari with 2.5 per thousand, Batman and Van with 3.0 per thousand. The first 10 provinces with the highest and lowest crude death rates, 2023 Among causes of death, diseases of the circulatory system took the first place When the deaths were analyzed by causes, deaths from diseases of the circulatory system were the highest with 33.4% in 2023. This cause of death was followed by neoplasms with 15.0% and diseases of the respiratory system with 13.2%. The proportion of deaths from external causes of injury and poisoning which includes deaths from the earthquake was 12.3%. The number of Turkish citizens who deceased in the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6th was 45 thousand 784. Proportion of deaths from diseases of the circulatory system was the highest in Çanakkale with 50.2% When the deaths from diseases of the circulatory system were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that the proportion of deaths from those diseases was the highest in Çanakkale with 50.2% in 2023. This province was followed by Kırşehir with 45.6%, Balıkesir with 44.7%, Kırıkkale with 43.0%. It was seen that the proportion of deaths from those diseases was the lowest in Adıyaman with 10.9%. This province was followed by Hatay with 12.6%, Kahramanmaraş with 13.5%, Kilis with 27.8%. The first 10 provinces with the highest and lowest proportion of deaths from diseases of the circulatory system, 2023 Neoplasm deaths was mostly from malignant neoplasms of larynx and trachea/bronchus/lung When the deaths from neoplasms were analyzed, it was seen that deaths from malignant neoplasms of larynx and trachea/bronchus/lung were 29.2%, deaths from malignant neoplasms of colon and malignant neoplasms of lymph/haematopoietic tissue were 7.7%. Proportion of deaths from neoplasms was the highest in Tunceli with 22.0% When the deaths from neoplasms were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that the proportion of deaths from those diseases was the highest in Tunceli with 22.0% in 2023. This province was followed by Ardahan with 21.0%, Erzurum with 20.9%, Van with 20.6%. It was seen that the proportion of deaths from those diseases was the lowest in Adıyaman with 3.4%. This province was followed by Hatay with 3.5%, Kahramanmaraş with 4.1%, Gaziantep with 8.8%. The first 10 provinces with highest and lowest proportion of deaths from neoplasms, 2023 Infant mortality rate was 10.0 per thousand While the number of infant deaths was 9 thousand 555 in 2022, it was 9 thousand 575 in 2023. While infant mortality rate was 9.2 per thousand in 2022, it was 10.0 per thousand in 2023. Causes of death data are obtained by coding the underlying causes of death on the death notification forms of the Death Notification System in accordance with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) of World Health Organization (WHO). Syrians in the country who are under temporary protection are not included in Death and Causes of Death Statistics. | |
