Labour Force Statistics, November 2020 Unemployment rate realized as 12.9% The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 303 thousand to 4 million 5 thousand persons in the period of November 2020 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year. The unemployment rate occurred as 12.9% with 0.4 percentage point decrease. Non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 14.8% with 0.6 percentage point decrease. Employment rate realized as 42.9% The number of employed persons decreased by 1 million 103 thousand to 27 million 66 thousand persons in the period of November 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as 42.9% with 2.7 percentage point decrease. In this period, the number of agricultural employment decreased by 361 thousand persons, industry decreased by 91 thousand persons and services decreased by 751 thousand persons while construction increased by 101 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 16.7% was employed in agriculture, 20.9% was employed in industry, 6.2% was employed in construction and 56.2% was employed in services. Labour force participation rate realized as 49.3% The number of persons in the labour force realized 31 million 71 thousand persons with 1 million 406 thousand persons decrease in the period of November 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labour force participation rate was 49.3% with 3.2 percentage point decrease. Non-seasonally adjusted main labour force indicators, 15 + age, (Thousand), November 2019, November 2020 The rate of unregistered employment realized as 29.7% The ratio of persons working without any social security relating to the main job occurred 29.7% with 4.1 percentage point decrease in the period of November 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The rate of unregistered employment realized as 19.0% with 3.8 percentage point decrease in the non-agricultural sector compared to the same period of the previous year. Public sector employment increased as 3.2% According to data gathered by Presidency of Strategy and Budget, total public sector employment realized as 4 million 792 thousand persons with 3.2% percentage point increase in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year. For 15-64 age group, unemployment rate realized as 13.1% and employment rate realized as 47.7% For the 15-64 age group, the unemployment rate occurred as 13.1% with 0.5 percentage point decrease and non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 14.9% with 0.6 percentage point decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. In this age group, employment rate occurred as 47.7% with 2.5 percentage point decrease and labour force participation rate occurred as 55.0% with 3.1 percentage point decrease. Non-seasonally adjusted main labour force indicators, 15-64 age group, (%), November 2019, November 2020 Youth unemployment rate realized as 25.4%, employment rate realized as 29.6% The youth unemployment rate between aged 15-24 years realized as 25.4% with 0.9 percentage point increase and the youth employment rate realized as 29.6% with 3.0 percentage point decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. In the same period, labour force participation rate realized as 39.6% with 3.6 percentage point decrease. The rate of neither in employment nor in education realized as 27.1% with 1.9 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year. Non-seasonally adjusted main labour force indicators, 15-24 age group, (%), November 2019, November 2020 Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 12.9%, employment rate realized as 43.1% Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 12.9% without any change. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 8 thousand to 4 million 6 thousand persons. Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 43.1% with 0.1 percentage point decrease. The number of employed persons estimated as 27 million 140 thousand persons with 24 thousand persons decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate was 49.4% with 0.1 percentage point decrease. The number of labour force estimated as 31 million 146 thousand persons with 32 thousand persons decrease. According to the seasonally adjusted number of employment by sectors, employment in industry increased by 83 thousand persons while agriculture decreased by 62 thousand persons, construction decreased by 6 thousand persons and services decreased by 38 thousand persons. Coverage of persons: All private households who are living in the territory of Republic of Turkey are covered. Residents of schools, dormitories, kindergartens, rest homes for elderly persons, special hospitals, military barracks and recreation quarters for officers are not covered.
Geographical coverage: All settlements in Turkey have been covered in sample selection.
Method of Sampling: For Household Labour Force Survey, two-stage stratified cluster sampling method was used. Based on adress, a rotation pattern is formed to ensure a 50% of overlap between two consecutive periods and in the same periods of the two consecutive years and 8 sub samples have been used at each period. In design of the study, sample size has been equally distributed to the weeks, which will be applied in each term. As of 2014, the quarterly survey sample size is 44.000 households. In determining sample volume size Eurostat regulation numbered 577/98 is based on. In design of the study, administrative division of the year 2014 is based on. The estimate size of the study is periodically the whole Turkey, annualy is the NUTS Level 2.
Weighing: Weighting is a method used to obtain parameters from the data set resulting from sampling so as to represent the universe. In the study, while reaching the final weight, the design weights have been calculated depending on the selection criteria; have been controlled for external distribution and corrected for non-responses. In weightning, age group, gender, NUTS Level 2, urban-rural and household size are based on as external control.
Data sources: Data were collected from the households which were selected by defined sampling method. Statistical unit used is “household” in labour force surveys. Demographic information (age, sex, educational status, relationship to household head) is asked to all members of the household. But, questions on labour force status are asked for persons 15 years old and over.
Data collection method: All information was collected by interviewers on a face-to-face basis with the help of portable computers (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing-CAPI).
